Although optical heart rate monitoring has advanced significantly, a chest strap remains the most reliable and responsive way to track heart rate. It senses the electrical impulses controlling your heart directly from your skin and is unaffected by intense movement, unlike optical wrist monitors which can struggle during sports activities that involve unusual wrist positions.

Most users wear the strap during workouts to transmit heart rate and heart rate variability data directly to a wrist device or bike computer. If preferred, you can also store the heart rate data and sync it with your smartphone via the Garmin Connect app.

Compatible devices include Garmin watches, Edge bike computers, many fitness machines, the Tacx Training app, and more.
